3 Decades of Bringing Art to People and People to Art in Asheville’s River Arts District
Silver River Center for Chair Caning is unveiling a public art installation in the garden at CURVE Studios Saturday, October 12 at 430 pm. An 8 ft tall cathedral arch made of chairs will be part of a happy hour at CURVE Studios 30th Anniversary Celebration from 4-6pm.
Inspired by an 1877 chair arch to honor Queen Victoria as she drove through the furniture making town of High Wycombe, UK, the RAD arch honors Pattiy Torno and CURVE Studios & Garden’s 30 years in the River Arts District. Studios will be open from 10am-6pm with demonstrations, classes, an artist talk, birthday cake and—in keeping with CURVE’s long tradition of “bringing people to art and art to life”—the unveiling of a public art sculpture in the garden by the chair nerds at Silver River Chairs.
In celebration of 10 years at CURVE, ceramic artist Cassie Butcher will give an artist talk “Unearthing the Soul” from 2-3pm in # 5 downstairs. The events are FREE. Come see the 11 artist businesses at CURVE Studios working in clay, jewelry, clothing design, and chair caning.
